Solar Eclipse 2026

Total Solar Eclipse on August 12, 2026: Where and When to See It

When and Where Will the Solar Eclipse Be Visible?

A total solar eclipse will occur on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. The eclipse will be visible in a narrow path that crosses Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Chad, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Djibouti. The path of the eclipse can be seen in the interactive map provided by the Online Planetarium.

Interactive Map and Local Times

The Online Planetarium provides a realistic interactive visualization of the eclipse, which takes into account the rotation of the sky caused by the local time zone. Local times for the eclipse are also provided in the map.

How to Observe the Total Solar Eclipse

During a total solar eclipse, the Moon moves between the Earth and Sun, completely blocking out the Sun's light. This creates a unique opportunity to observe the Sun's corona, which is normally not visible. To safely observe the eclipse, it is important to use proper eye protection, such as eclipse glasses or a pinhole projector.
